DENON RCD-N7 – The Personal Audio Receiver of the Future?

I’ve seen lots of audio equipment over the years. Reel-to-Reel Tape Players, Power Amps, and CD Players are but a few. Along the way I’ve been impressed many times with the advances in technology. Often I look around for the next step in home entertainment and find, well, nothing. Today isn’t one of those days though. I got to see the Denon RCD-N7 Network Receiver in action and instantly wanted one for myself.

The first thing that got me was the size. It’s small. It’s a little less than a foot across with about the same depth. This is great for those of us that live in tiny apartments. Yet the size was least of the unit’s great features. The RCD-N7 is a 65 watt per channel, AM/FM stereo receiver, with a built-in iPod/iPhone Dock and CD player. What makes it a unique product is its ability to stream audio via built-in Wi-Fi or direct Ethernet connection. Being Windows 7 and Apple Airplay compatible means you have your entire music library available to you from either PC platform. It supports Pandora, Rhapsody, and Napster along with the ability to playback USB memory. Oh did I mention the Internet Radio? It has that too. All of these features packed into a small footprint chassis = AWESOME!

Denon recommends a pair of its own speakers but they are OPTIONAL. You can pair the system with whatever your favorite bookshelf speakers happen to be. As personal audio systems go, the RCD-N7 sits among the best of its kind. Hrmm, I wonder if it’s too late to put in a Christmas request. Could this be the personal audio system of the future?
